Overview

Historical Significance
The history behind the making of the tomb is as interesting as the tomb itself. A poor merchant from Persia named Ghiyas-ud-Din came to India and became the chief minister of the Mughal emperor Jehangir. His daughter Nur Jahan was later married to the emperor and when Ghiyas-ud-Din died in 1622, Nur Jahan got this mausoleum made.
The tomb is full of features that were later included in the construction of the Taj Mahal. The splendid carvings that are found in this tomb are said to be even better than those found in the Taj Mahal.
