Overview
Bundi is a small sleepy town located in southern Rajasthan and is known for its palaces, intricately designed step wells and water tanks. The history of Bundi is pretty interesting. In 1192 A.D Prithviraj Chauhan was defeated by Muhammad Ghori in the second battle of Tarain. The Chauhans were thus forced to flee. Some of them fled to the neighboring state of Mewar, with whom they formed an alliance.
Most of the others proceeded towards the Chambal Valley where, after overpowering the local chiefs, they established the two states of Kota and Bundi on the opposite banks of the Chambal River. Being a sleepy town does not in any way decrease its splendor and there are numerous places worth visiting.

Summary
The principal attraction of Bundi is the Taragarh or the Junagarh Fort that was constructed by Raja Raj Singh – one of the most trusted lieutenants of Mughal Emperor Akbar – in 1593. Unlike other forts of Rajasthan, which are situated atop hills, this one is located on a desert plain and till date has not been conquered. The fort is an exceptional blend of Oriental and European Architecture and is studded with palaces and gardens.
Nawal Lake is one of the most picturesque spot in Bundi. At the center of the lake lies the half submerged Varun Temple. The lake almost magically reflects the whole city. Sukh Mahal is the summer palace located on the Sukh Sagar Lake and is surrounded with beautiful gardens.
Add-on Facilities
Apart from the aforementioned palaces, forts, lakes and temples, Bundi has numerous colorful bazaars that leave the tourist spellbound. Also, famous is the Teej Festival which is held during the months of July and August. The festival is a hit amongst the travelers who make it a point to visit it, even though the best months to visit Bundi are between October to March.
