Overview
Kota is the twin city of Bundi which is located on Chambal on the opposite side of Bundi. Both the cities were established by the Chauhans, after they overpowered the local rulers of that area.
Earlier Muhammad Ghori, the Turkish ruler of Ghur – had inflicted the final defeat on the Chauhans led by Prithviraj Chauhan in the second battle of Tarain fought in 1192 A.D. Kota became independent from its mother state of Bundi in 1631 A.D. when Rao Madho Singh, the second son of Rao Ratan of Bundi, was made the ruler by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Since then Kota outgrew its mother state and became more powerful – in area and in revenue.

Summary
There are numerous places worth visiting in Kota. The Maharao Madho Singh Museum is situated inside the old palace and has on display a rich collection of Rajput miniature paintings of the Kota School, sculptures, murals and arms. Another renowned museum is the Government Museum, housed inside the Brijvilas Palace, and displaying a vast array of rare coins, manuscripts, sections of Hadoti culture etc.
The most spectacular item on display is the sculpted statue brought here from Baroli, which is famous for its sculpture and its history.
