History of Udaipur

The history of Udaipur dates back to 1568 when it was founded. This city of lakes was christened Udaipur after the name of its founder, Maharana Udai Singh II. Udaipur was the capital of Mewar. The Mughal emperor Akbar conquered Chittor in 1568. Udai Singh shifted the capital to the site of the palace, which was established as Udaipur. Tucked away along Aravali Ranges, Udaipur was ruled over by the Sisodia dynasty for 1200-year.
