it is located in the the main street of Old Delhi. Situated opposite the Red Fort, the bazaar has several lanes. Each of these galis represents a specialty of this market. The market place has historical landmarks like- The Sunheri Masjid that stands next to the old police station. The Fatehpur Mosque is located at the west end of Chandni Chowk and the famous Jumma Masjid is also situated nearby.
Amongst the most populous areas of Delhi, Chandni Chowk is a place to be explored and savored for those who do not fear crowds and have always been attracted by mixed sounds and color, smell and noise.
During Shahjahan's time itself, an arcade of shops had been built in a half-moon shape. Round this nucleus, in no time, grew a fabulous and prosperous trading center, which spread along the wide road and branched into a number of by lanes in all directions. Originally only this stretch was known as Chandni Chowk. But as the trading center grew in magnificence and prosperity, the whole area from the Fort to Fatehpur grew famous as Chandni Chowk.
A fascinating unit of the temple is the Jain Bird Hospital, an amazing place, very clean and extremely busy, with about 60 birds admitted and treated every day in summer.
Built in 1866 A.D by the British, the Town Hall today houses the offices of the Delhi Municipal Corporation, and is the centre of Civic Administration of Delhi. And on the western end of Chandni Chowk is the Fatehpuri Mosque.
Chandni Chowk today it is one of the country's best known wholesale markets for jewellerys, textiles, electronic goods and watches. Chandni Chowk also houses an amazing number of places of worship of all the prominent Indian religions. Here one can find more than seven Hindu and Jain temples, two Churches, three Mosques and two Gurudwaras. This is excluding the numerous smaller shrines that exist in the remoter parts of Chandni Chowk. Like the Sri Digambar Jain lal Mandir , Jama Masjid, Gurudwara Shish Ganj , Gauri Shankar Temple ,Sunehri Masjid.
The eating joints in Chandni Chowk are famous not only in Delhi, but all over India. Most of these date from the last century, some even earlier than that.
