The capital of Chhattisgarh, Ratanpur is situated about 25 km from Bilaspur on the Katghora Road.
Famous for its ancient forts and intricately carved temples, Ratnapur is an ancient fort city of Chhattisgarh state. Once the capital of Chhattisgarh this ancient city is full of old temples, monuments and ponds.
Ancient fort of Ratnapur with a striking stone sculpture on the frames of Ganesh gate is a major tourist attraction here. The idol, which is a combination of river goddesses Ganga and Jamuna, can be seen on this gate frame. On the entrance there is a statues of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva in Tandav pose . The temples of Sitchourai and Jagannath are also found in this fort.
The idol of Dashanan and a temple of Goddess Mahamaya made in the 11th century are the some of the other attractions in Ratnapur.
Ancient Shivaling and sun temple found at Karyipara and Dargah of Musekhan, Khichdi Kedar and Lateswar are some of the important sites to visit in Ratnapur.
There are the ruins of an old fort here. This has an attractive stone sculpture over the frame of the Ganesh gate. The entrance has Shiva's Tandav Dance and statues of Lord Bramha and Lord Vishnu. Inside, there are the Sitchourai and Jagarnath temples.
An 11 th century temple, of Goddess Mahamaya, was built during the reign of Calturi. There are ponds near the temple. In front of this is a temple of Kantideval of Maratha Period. The architecture department renovated this.
At the foot of a hill is the Bhuddeshwar Shiv Temple made made by Bhimbhaji Bhosle. At the top of the hill is the Laxmi Temple, also called Ekbira Temple. There is also the Ratneswar Mahadev Temple.

There is a special to see that idol of God Dashanan who is cutting his own head one after another and offering to Lord Shiv. The local area's eminent faithful one of temples is the Godess Mahamaya.
Before entring in to the place of Ratanpur there is a temple of Baba Bairavnath in which an idol of nine feet. At the place of Ramtekri there is a temple of Ram Panchayat. There is a Bhuddeshwar Shiv Temple made at the feet of hil made by Bhimbhaji Bhosle and at the top there is Laxmi temple which is called Ekbira Temple.
