Summary

The hilly state of Himachal Pradesh has altitudes that range from 450 to 600 meters high above the sea level. The climatic conditions in this state vary from sub humid tropical and hot in the southern lowlands to temperate, cool, warm glacial and cold alpine at the high mountain ranges in the eastern and northern zones of Himachal Pradesh.

The state of Himachal Pradesh roughly divided into 3 seasons in a year. The summer season starts during the months of March to June, rainy season during the months of July to September and the winter season during the months of October to February.

The nights and mornings during the months of October are very cold as the snowfalls at an elevation of about 3000 meters and it lasts till March. During summer the air becomes cool and fresh and colorful flowers adorn the valley, meadows and forest slopes. At the end of June the rainy season commences and the entire landscape becomes lush green. Several streams begin to flow and springs are replenished as heavy rains start in the month of July. These heavy rains cause many damages in the form of floods, landslides and erosions in some parts of this state.

Dharamshala is the only place which has the highest rainfall of about 3400 mm and Spiti is the driest area which has below 50 mm of rainfall in the state of Himachal Pradesh.
