The Daranghati Sanctuary lies in the Shimla district and is near the Rampur Bushahr area. The area this sanctuary covers is of about 16, 740 hectares and is rich in all the varieties of flora and fauna and the great diversity of wildlife.
In the year 1974, the Daranghati was declared as the wildlife sanctuary and it became a protected area for the wildlife and the variety of flora and fauna. The salient features of this wildlife sanctuary are its high mountain pesaks, the many gushing rivers, the steep valleys with a thick cover of green, and of course the many varieties of animals and birds. The sanctuary is an ideal destination for adventure seekers and nature lovers who want a relief from the daily chores of urban life.

The best season to visit the place are the months of October and November in winter , and April to June in summer. The nearest airport for the sanctuary is in Jubbarhatti that is only 23 kms from Shimla. Similarly for tourists coming by train will have to get down at the Shimla railway station . The sanctuary is well connected to the state highways
