Great Himalayan National Park

The Great Himalayan National Park is also called as the Jawahar Lal Nehru National Park; it lies at an altitude of 1500 to 5805 above sea level. This rich National Park is situated in the interiors of the higher Himalayan ranges. The park became the national park in 1984 and since then many endangered species of birds and mammals have flourished here.

The beauty of the park is really spellbinding and entices everyone who visits it. Being in the upper parts of the Himalayas the main area of the park is always covered with ice and the glaciers of the Himalayas.

The national park is considered as the ultimate pristine park in the interiors of the Himalayas. The national park today is the home of more than 30 varieties of mammals and 200 varieties of birds. Besides having close encounters with the wildlife of the park travelers can visit sacred pilgrimage places, and the nearby places.

The Great Himalayan National Park is truly the home of untamed beauty, those wanting to explore wildlife and the varied flora and fauna this national park is the best place. The main animals that one can come across in the park include ibex, serow, Himalayan black bear, snow leopard, blue sheep, goral, musk deer, and the park has the highest number of the Himalayan Tahr.

The fauna found in the park is in great variety, there are trees like oak, deodar, Rhododendron, cedar, and numerous other varieties. Visitors can also visit places like Hanskund, Raktisar that are the origins of rivers like Tirthan, and Sainj. On the southern fringes of the park, there is the lake Sirikhand Mahadev.

The nearby attractions from the park include the Kullu valley famous for its ancient temples, the Dussehra festival, and the handicrafts. Visitors can reach the park from the nearest airport, which is only 60 km away. The nearest railway station is at Joginder Nagar. Visitors can reach the park by road from Ropa or from Gushaini.
