Overview

Himachal Pradesh features a unique and vibrant wildlife. The state features 32 sanctuaries and 2 national parks. Himachal Pradesh is home to 463 species and 4 reptiles 516 species of aquatic fauna.

The Kanwar sanctuary features a splendid uphill walk along the Grahan Nala from Kasol through thick deodar and fir forests. One can spot a variety of fauna as they trek through this canopied trails. The commonly spotted animals are wild boars, blue sheep, flying squirrel, Himalayan black bear leopards, barking deer and the musk deer.

The sanctuary is well connected by road with the most major town in Himachal Pradesh. The Kanwar sanctuary has long been a favorite hunting ground for photographers and trekkers

Summary

Kanwar Sanctuary is located in the Parbati Valley at an elevation of 1220 meters above sea level. It is the famed dwelling of the Himalayan tahr. The best time to visit Kanwar sanctuary is from May to June. The regions receive heavy rainfall during the months from June to October. The tourists generally keep away during these months. The months from October to January are bitterly cold and the animals tends to hibernate which leaves a visit during these months insignificant.

The Kanwar Sanctuary features perpetual dark environments due to the heavy canopy of the deodar and fir trees. The nearest airport is Bhuntar which is about 10 kms away and the closest railhead is Jogindernagar which is 95 kms away.
