Pin Valley National Park is situated in the cold forest of Spiti valley in the districts of Spiti and Lahul in the state of Himachal Pradesh. On the 9th January 1987 this forest of Spiti valley was declared as the National Park. This park has a variety of rare animals which include the snow leopard, Tibetan gazelle and wooly hare. This National Park of Pin Valley covers around 67,500 hectares of area.
This beautiful park is located in the rugged terrains of Himalayan mountains and is the home to a number of endangered species such as Himalayan Marmot, Indian Hodgsoris Porcupine, Himalayan Mouse-hare, Blue Sheep, Red Indian Fox and Wolf.
One can also come across several other species like the large herds of Bharal and Ibex. This park is rich in flora and fauna and allures wildlife buffs and rare bird species such as the Chukor, Tibetan snow finch, snow partridge and Himalayan snowcock.
Pin Valley National Park is a dry most of the time due to the cold temperatures and the high altitude which lessens the growth of vegetation in this area. But there is diversity of Alpine forests in this region.
During summer one can also see a riot of colors covering in this valley. The best time to visit this park is during the months of August but generally July to October is the perfect time.

This National Park is accessible from Mikkim which is closely located in Pin Valley. It is also accessible form Manali from where several buses run down the highway to this valley.
Even one can get to this valley from Shimla through the Spiti valley by road which runs along the Tibetan border through Kinnaur and Zanskar.
One of the most important things to consider about this park is that foreign tourists or even Indian tourists have to obtain a permit to enter this National Park. It is advised that only those who have strong lungs and tough leg muscles should visit this area.
